Title: Gilded Webs
Date: 2024
Dimensions: 10 x 45 ft area in Tijuana Estacion SITT "Palacio Municipal"
Exhibition History:
Mover La Ciudad, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, 2024.
Description: The interactive piece critiques the disparity between government spending on high-profile, self-serving projects and the often inadequate funding for public services that directly impact citizens' mobility and quality of life. A spider web, usually thought of as detritus, is now presented made of luxurious materials. The web's gold links represent the opulence and resources allocated to governmental projects, reflecting a sense of affluence and self-interest. In contrast, the delicate, interconnected strands of the web illustrate the societal networks and mobility that are impacted by these financial decisions.
Gilded Webs is an installation for the Mover La Ciudad movement in Tijuana. Set in an abandoned transportation station, the artwork presents the delicate beauty of spider webs as a social statement.
This piece features a large-scale web formed by golden chains and rings suspended from the ceiling, forming a dynamic interaction that takes over the space.
